Tuesday, June 4th 2013 – 2-3pm

Check out the below information on an upcoming webinar that may be of interest to you!

U.S. Solar Market and Installation Trends 2013

“In 2012, more than 90,000 photovoltaic installations were installed in the U.S. with a total capacity of 3.3 GW. This represents a 75% increase over installations completed in 2011,” said Larry Sherwood, IREC vice president & COO, and author of IREC’s U.S. Solar Market and Installation Trends Report 2013. “Installed utility capacity in 2012 increased by almost 2.5 times compared with 2011 and represents over half of the installed capacity last year. Distributed capacity also grew, but by a more modest 33%.”

IREC’s highly anticipated annual report, U.S. Solar Market and Installation Trends 2013, compiles and analyzes public data on U.S. solar installations by technology, state and market sector for 2012. Now in its sixth year, IREC’s 2013 Solar Market Trends Report covers solar technologies that produce electricity, including photovoltaics (PV) and concentrating solar power (CSP).

The webinar will feature information about PV installations in 2012, including growth trends by sector and state rankings for installations. If you’re involved in the solar industry, or wish to become involved, this webinar will provide valuable information about the rapidly changing solar market in the U.S.

The IREC Solar Market and Installation Trends Report 2013 will be released at the end of June.

Join IREC and Larry for this webinar Tuesday, June 4, 2013, 2:00-3:00 pm EDT. The webinar is free, but you must register to attend.

From the NewsOK:

Wind energy installations almost doubled in Pennsylvania last year, but the industry still provides only about 1 percent of the state’s electricity, far behind Iowa, Texas and others.
Pennsylvania now ranks 16th in the nation in wind power, with 1,430 megawatts, according to the American Wind Energy Association’s Annual Market Report for 2012, which was released this month.

Iowa leads the nation, getting 24.5 percent of its electricity from wind power in 2012. South Dakota was at 24 percent, Minnesota 14 percent, Colorado 11 percent and Texas just over 7 percent. New York was at 2.2 percent, and Maine led the Northeast at almost 6 percent.
Even some advocates of renewable energy wonder if Pennsylvania will ever reach the wind energy levels of Iowa and some other leaders.

“My view is, probably not,” said George Jugovic, president of PennFuture, an environmental group. “I think it’s just economics.” Jugovic supports wind energy and still believes it will grow here, just not at the scale of other states.

Iowa, Texas and a number of other states have sustained high winds and large areas of flat land that are relatively easy to build on, while states such as New York have the potential for extensive offshore wind farms. In Pennsylvania, the windiest areas tend to be on mountain ridges.

Wind also has another potent competitor here and in the region: the tremendous amounts of natural gas that are being produced from the Marcellus Shale, a gas-rich formation that is being tapped in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.
